Why not make a fun New Year’s resolution to become a wine expert in 2012? Whistler Water recently paid a visit to our friends at Everything Wine to learn wine tasting tricks and techniques from the professionals. Not only did we pick up some great tips but we were also thrilled to learn that there is no better accompaniment to a glass of wine than water, as it can help cleanse your palate as well as keep you hydrated. Listen: Everything Wine on 650AM

If you are a wine lover, make sure you join Whistler Water at the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival in February where you can sample from some of the world’s best bottles. Stay tuned to Whistler Water’s social media for the chance to win tickets to the Festival and get your resolution off to a great start!

October 14 we were fortunate enough to be able to sponsor an amazing event, the 2011 We Day Vancouver. 18,000 youth, educators and supporters filled Rogers Arena for a day of inspiring speeches by guests like Mikhail Gorbachev and former Congolese child soldier Michel Chikwanine with entertainment by Hedley, Shawn Desman and more.

We were also fortunate enough to run into speaker Spencer West in the arena. Next year this incredible man is planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in his wheelchair.

Whistler Water was there to support the important work of Free the Children and educate thousands of students about the importance of recycling through our Let the Bottle Live On pledge.

The heat has finally arrived on the west coast, and it has us here at Whistler Water thinking about all things Summer. Particularly, Live at Squamish. I know there’s a whole summer between now and the weekend of August 20th and 21st, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get excited and secure your tickets ahead of time! 2010 was a blast, and this year is already promising to be even bigger and better with headlining bands like Weezer and Metric. I’m really looking forward to hearing Shane Koyczan’s performance as well as all of the others! Check more bands playing Live at Squamish here.

Whistler Water is a proud sponsor and we want to send you to Live at Squamish! Our friends at Donald’s Market are going to be giving away a pair of tickets at each of their three locations around Vancouver between June 13th and July 4th. All you have to do is buy some Whistler Water, write your name and number on the back of the receipt and place it in the designated drop box. Find out where a Donald’s Market is near you.

Last week Whistler Water put a bounty on the head of Grouse Grind record holder Sebastian Salas, saying that if anyone could beat him at the BMO 20th Annual Grouse Grind Mountain Run, Whistler Water would match the funds raised for the event (benefitting Grind for Kids, raising funds for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation). Well, as it turns out, Sebastian beat his own time! What to do? Well, Whistler Water President Stuart McLaughlin announced at the awards ceremony that despite this turn of events, Whistler Water would match the funds raised (in the ballpark of $10,000, the tally is still being determined as funds come in) to make the final donation of the event $20,000.

Twenty-three year-old Sebastian Salas set a new course record of 25 minutes and one second at the 20th BMO Grouse Grind Mountain Run today. Just last month he smashed the unofficial time (set outside the annual race) with a stunning climb that took him only 23 minutes and 48 seconds. The race this morning drew over 500 participants, and raised funds for Grind For Kids a local annual initiative that supports BC Children’s Hospital. Whistler Water matched the event day fundraising to bring the total charitable contribution from the historic 20th race to $20k.

adopt-an-athleteIf you want to see Canadian athletes on the podium, put them there yourself!

Through our Adopt an Athlete program in partnership with Grouse Mountain, you can offer three Team Canada Olympic hopefuls the support they need to train, attend qualifying competitions, maintain their equipment, and travel in the name of sport.

Athleticism at a world-class level is not any easy undertaking. For so many talented Canadian athletes the cost of qualifying alone is too far out of reach for them to do their country proud on the podium. Add to that the expense of high performance gear, airfare, access to suitable training facilities, and just like that a dream can disappear.

Which is why Whistler Water has brought on board three “adopted” athletes who are literally on the brink of international glory. We believe that the only thing our Olympians should have to worry about is their commitment to giving it their best. If we can help in any way to alleviate the other practical considerations, then we feel that as an iconic Canadian brand, it is our duty to do what we can.

Watch for 500 ml Whistler Water bottles with the Adopt-an-Athlete neck-tags, driving awareness of our company’s commitment to Canadian talent.

Visit adopt-an-athlete.ca for full details on this exciting campaign as well as athlete blogs, sponsor information, and updates on the campaign’s progress.
