Last week Whistler Water put a bounty on the head of Grouse Grind record holder Sebastian Salas, saying that if anyone could beat him at the BMO 20th Annual Grouse Grind Mountain Run, Whistler Water would match the funds raised for the event (benefitting Grind for Kids, raising funds for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation). Well, as it turns out, Sebastian beat his own time! What to do? Well, Whistler Water President Stuart McLaughlin announced at the awards ceremony that despite this turn of events, Whistler Water would match the funds raised (in the ballpark of $10,000, the tally is still being determined as funds come in) to make the final donation of the event $20,000.
Twenty-three year-old Sebastian Salas set a new course record of 25 minutes and one second at the 20th BMO Grouse Grind Mountain Run today. Just last month he smashed the unofficial time (set outside the annual race) with a stunning climb that took him only 23 minutes and 48 seconds. The race this morning drew over 500 participants, and raised funds for Grind For Kids a local annual initiative that supports BC Children’s Hospital. Whistler Water matched the event day fundraising to bring the total charitable contribution from the historic 20th race to $20k.

Whistler Water was on hand at the 19th Annual BMO Grouse Grind Mountain Run at Grouse Mountain yesterday where West Vancouver local, Sebastian Salas, smashed the existing record with a time of 25:24. The official course record previously held by Michael Simpson was 26:19 set in 2007.
Winning the 19th Annual BMO Grouse Grind Mountain Run in record fashion marks Selas’ second consecutive win in successive years, with the champion besting his winning time from last year by more than two minutes.
We like to think it’s because of the Whistler Water…

Whistler Water is the water of choice for the outdoor concert experience of the summer.
World famous entertainers and local guests will be refreshed with Canada’s Whistler Water at the upcoming premiere benefit concert in West Vancouver on Saturday, September 12, 2009. The Sarah McLachlan Foundation and the District of West Vancouver will present a unique occasion called “Summer Sessions at Ambleside” as a one-day premiere benefit concert in the idyllic setting.
Whistler Water is a proud sponsor of the event, the first of its kind in West Vancouver, that will feature musical performances by megastar artists Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow and Neil Young.
All proceeds from the concert go to the Sarah McLachlan Foundation. The Foundation’s mandate is to bring music into the lives of young Canadians, through providing free music programs to youth in under-served communities. The impact of participation is profound; building self-esteem, and fostering creativity in young people through the power of music. Ambleside Park in West Vancouver will also provide the perfect location for the late summer concert. Alongside the premiere artists, the all day festival will include performances from an eclectic array of talented Canadian artists.
As British Columbia’s truly local water, Whistler Water is a natural fit for this prominent local event, benefitting home grown music. Summer Sessions at Ambleside will benefit youth in Canadian communities, and provide the audience with a rare and excellent experience. Having Whistler Water there also serves to encourage people to have a healthy lifestyle and celebrate all things local.
