Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin

While spring may be just around the corner, and the days are getting longer in the Northern Hemisphere, winter’s impact on the skin can still be felt.  Winter is a take-me-on-my-own-terms kind of season.  Those who embrace winter enjoy the crisp air, the opportunity to take-in snow sports, cozy evenings in front of a roaring fire and hearty meals of comfort foods.  But as lovely as winter may be, winter is hard on the skin leaving us with chapped lips, cracked cuticles, and even flakiness. There are ways to feel absolutely dewy, despite winter’s  wallop.

    Let Lotion be Your Potion

While always a good practice, moisturizer is even more important in winter.  And just because those golden rays of sun may be fewer, a moisturizer with an SPF is still important. One area of the body that tends to need extra TLC in winter is the hands. Using a hand cream, treating those cuticles kindly and wearing gloves in the outdoors will help keep hands soft, smooth and spectacular.

    Get Your Balm On

Chapped and cracked lips can be uncomfortable and down-right unattractive. To keep lips looking and feeling their best in winter, lip balm is a must.  No need for fancy stuff – just select a product with a consistency that can penetrate rather than sit atop dry skin.  For those spending time in the outdoors, a lip balm with SPF will ensure you’re protected from both sun and dryness.

    To Retaliate, Exfoliate

Dryness is inevitable, and shedding that dry skin is important.  The best moisturizer can’t penetrate through layers of dead skin.  To ensure your skin is smooth and receptive to lotions, be sure to exfoliate weekly. Be gentle with sensitive skin and don’t forget to polish up those rough dry heels.

    H2Ohhh So Important

Addressing dryness from the outside is only part of the equation. The most important strategy is to start from the inside-out.  Ensuring you’re drinking enough water is imperative.  We may feel a bit less thirsty in cooler weather than in warmer weather, but the body still needs water to maintain hydration, to ensure removal of waste and toxins and to have optimal body function. Optimal body function includes the skin’s dermis.

    Winter…you can’t harden the hydrated.

We Day in Waterloo, Feb 17,  brought together thousands of students from the region, bringing their support and energy for social change at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex. Nobel Laureate and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr., iconic Canadian rock band the Barenaked Ladies, cast members from Degrassi, Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo, chart- topping pop/R&B singer Shawn Desman, pop/rock band Stereos, Me to We motivational speaker Spencer West, founders of Free The Children Craig and Marc Kielburger and many more.

We Day, the event itself, is just the beginning of a larger, youth-driven movement that creates systemic change around the world. Students and educators leave We Day with fresh inspiration and passion to make a difference, and are provided with the tools necessary to make change a reality. – Free The Children press release (http://www.weday.ca/press)

With one of the most romantic weekends of the year about to unfold (Valentines Day falls on Monday this year, so its sort of like a 3-day build up), Whistler Water would like to remind you to stay hydrated! Water is always essential to our constitution, but becomes particularly poignant in times of increased celebration.

After reviewing our list of good friends and partners in the marketplace, we have come up with a few romantic suggestions for the coming days from your friends at Whistler Water…

    1. Cook a romantic meal at home.

First, stop in at Urban Fare Yaletown to hand select some of the most sensual items you can put on any menu. Fresh passion fruit, artisanal chocolate, and stunning pastries can add spice to any intimate menu.

Next, drop in for luscious bottle of sparkling at Liberty Wine Merchants (with whom Whistler Water partnered again in the spectacular Taste BC earlier this year). We suggest something light and fruity to stimulate the senses like a blanc-de-blanc from the cooler growing regions of the Okanagan.

Finally, a trip to the always-inspiring Whole Foods West Vancouver for fresh cut flowers and scented candles sets the mood for the ultimate stay-at-home Valentines…

    2. Make a night of it.

When we look for the ultimate in chic Vancouver experiences, we tend to turn to our friends at The Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver for help. Book a stunning room overlooking the North Shore Mountains and revel in the opulence of one of Vancouvers top properties. We suggest a memorable dining experience at the modern Yew Restaurant followed by mid-morning room service on a lazy weekend morning.

Consider beginning the evening at the nearby Pacific Cinematheque to catch a sophisticated art-house film that will stimulate conversation…

Whistler Water is available at all of the locations we mentioned above. We wish you and yours the happiest of Valentines Days and urge you to stay hydrated.
